Latte is tired of not having enough time with her Mom because Ellie Mae keeps hogging her. But Ellie Mae is a tough negotiator when it comes to making up a Momma schedule! We suppose "negotiation" is a bit liberal as a description of this discussion: Ellie's side of the negotiation reads more as demands!
L: Latte [tortie/tabby lady cat aka "Kitten"]
L: We need to have a talk.
{Silence}
L: Hello?
{Silence}
L: ELLIE!
EM: WHAT?
L: Didn't you hear me?
EM: You need to have a talk with someone. Okay.
L: With you!
EM: How was I supposed to know that? Yesterday, you said you were never going to talk to me again because I funked up your litter box, AND I keep stealing Momma!
L: But there's no one else here! Who else would I talk to?
EM: That's above my pay grade.
L: You don't get paid.
EM: Exactly.
L: {sigh} Anyway. You have to stop hogging Mom.
EM: No.
L: I know you're sick and all ... but I'm getting tired of Daddy. For FOUR MONTHS, Mom's been spending all her time with you.
EM: I know! It's wonderful! We snuggle. And snuggle some more. And snuggle more than that. I purr. And purr some more. And purr more than that!
L: She's my Mom, too! I'm ALL ALONE!
EM: You have the Treat Man, formerly known to me as Daddy!
L: Like I said ... ALL ALONE!
EM: I can't help being Momma's favorite.
L: You're not her favorite! I'm her favorite!
EM: Then why does she spend all her time with me?
L: Because you're sick!
EM: Keep telling yourself that's why ...
L: I get some Mom, too!
EM: Fine. You can have her when she's brushing our teeth, clipping claws, and generally not doing what I tell her to.
L: HEY!
EM: Fine. You can have her while she sleeps. That's a VERY generous offer.
L: But she's not conscious then!
EM: She snoozes, you loses. Or something like that.
L: We need to write out a schedule for who gets Mom when.
EM: Okay. I get her when she's awake. You get her while she's sleeping.
L: No. How about I get her while she's awake, and you get her while she's sleeping?
EM: No.
L: Come on!
EM: She was my Momma before she was your Mom. I called dibs.
L: You can't call dibs before I was born!
EM: I don't make the rules.

DeleteI wish they could sit with you on a couch, one on one side, one on the other, and share you at the same time.
ReplyDeleteWe have a volunteer at the shelter who is very good with the female cats who are just, shall we say, divas. He adopted one who would not get along with other cats or most people, then he adopted a second one of the same ilk. They share him, he says, one sleeps by his head, one by his feet. On the couch, one is on each side of him. They ignore each other, won't play or interact, but share him.
Share?! Eww! No! ~Latte

DeleteEllie Mae, our mom and all of us really hope you are doing okay. We haven't heard from your momma in a while, and our mom is getting a bit worried. She's praying Ellie Mae has not taken a turn for the worst. Our mom is also concerned that she wrote something to your momma that upset or offended her. We just want you to know that both of you and your momma remain in our prayers daily. Latte, we are sorry you are not getting enough time with your mom, but you know she loves you too! Sending lots of love and hugs to everyone. XOCK, angels Lily Olivia, Mauricio, Misty May, Giulietta & Fiona, Astrid, Lisbeth, Calista Jo, Cooper Murphy, Sawyer, Kizmet, Audrey & Raleigh
