Quirky Ellie Mae

We love Ellie Mae dearly. Not only is she Momma's prettiest girl, but she's also the sweetest cat you'll ever meet (she's never bitten or scratched anyone, including during all of her recent tests). In contrast to that, she also has a ... very PARTICULAR set of skills. Today, you get to go behind the scenes and see just how very endearing Ellie Mae is to those of us lucky enough to share our lives with her. Since Kat's started catering to her every whim, things have gotten even more interesting.

In advance of her especially risky surgery next week to remove her tumor, today (and every day), we're thankful for Ellie Mae. We can't imagine our lives without her.

EM: Ellie Mae Kat [black, gorgeously floofy lady cat]
L: Latte [tortie/tabby lady cat aka "Kitten"]
MK: Momma Kat [Latte and Ellie's human Momma, named Kat]

A ... very PARTICULAR set of skills

EM: MROW mrow MRRRRROW mrrrrrr.
MK: Look at Ellie Mae! Our ferocious huntress!
EM: mrow MRRRRROW mrrrrrr MROW.
MK: Ellie brought us her red ball!
L: Oh, goodie!
EM: MRRROOOOOOOOOOWWWWW!
L: I'm telling you, she could kill her tumor with that noise!
EM: mrrMRRROOOOOOOOOOWWWmrrrr!
MK: SHHHHHH! Does she interrupt your hunting?
L: No! Because I actually HUNT! She just TALKS!
EM: Do you mind?!

{Pause}
EM:MMMRRROOOOOOOOOOOOOWWWWWWWWWRRRRRRRRR.
L: Oh, what fresh hell is this?!
EM: MRRRRROWmrrrrrrOW.
{Ellie bats at her red ball}

EM: MRRROOOOOOOOOO ....
{The ball rolls off the ottoman}
EM: Hmm.

MK: Do you want your ball back?
L: NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! Not again!
EM: Do I LOOK like I want it back? It's dead. OBVIOUSLY.

MK: Yeah. Sorry. My mistake.
{Pause}
MK: {putting the ball back on the ottoman} Oh, look! It's alive again!
EM: No. It's not. I'm very thorough.

L: Thank goodness!
MK: Erm ... yeah. My mistake. I don't know what I was thinking.
L: You certainly weren't thinking about the noise she makes when she wants to kill something!
EM: On second thought ... I think it twitched.

Ellie Mae's grooming disgruntlement

Food training your human

Kat can't help but feel that perhaps Ellie is finely tuning her training of her ...

With a 5 cm mass on her liver pushing her internal organs around, Ellie hasn't been as eager to eat. So Kat's happy to get her to eat however she can. But Kat wonders if perhaps Ellie expects these changes to be permanent ...

#WhateverItTakes #atleastsheseating #shesaidplease

MK: Ellie, you have to eat more than Squeeze-ups, treats, and the gravy from wet food.
EM: Why?

MK: Because you need nutrition! You have a bowl of yummy kibble!
EM: But it's in a bowl!
MK: Okay. How would you prefer to eat it?
EM: You can dump some on the floor over there and on my scratcher.
MK: Ummm ... okay.
EM: Thanks.
MK: You might not want to get used to this.
EM: Why not?

MK: Because hopefully, you won't be sick for much longer.
EM: But if I refuse to eat from my bowl, you'll want me to eat, right?
MK: {sigh}.

#shesright

After an intense session of killing my rainbow, I like to eat my Churu in my box (the Churu must be in my box ... I must be outside the box ... this is the only way I will eat it, and my Mom's a total chump so she goes along with it).

ps - For those who are curious, my rainbow is not allowed in my box. Sometimes, my humans get stupid and put it there, and I complain loudly.

Ellie considerately ponders ways of paying for her surgery ...

Ellie's spunk

Ellie's lost two of her three favorite toys (including her rainbow), so, in desperation, I raided Bear's memorial so she could have his catnip banana until I could get her a new one. I ran to the bathroom and came back to find Bear's container of ashes knocked over (still sealed), all his toys pulled out of his memorial shark bed, and Ellie lounging in the shark bed! I wish I'd gotten a picture! Ellie still has her spunk, and she hasn't forgotten how to get one over on her brofur.

The Ellie-vator (and snuggle time)

Kat has become the Ellie-vator. Yes, Ellie is perfectly capable of jumping up on the bed by herself. But Kat figured, why not make it easier and lift her up? So now Ellie expects a ride ... when it's Momma/Ellie snuggle time.

#nothanks #backofdisrespect #denied

MK: Okay, okay! No more pictures.
EM: HEY!
MK: What?
EM: I heard the click, Momma! You have 25,783,255,103 pictures of me! Do you need another 43?
MK: Yes. {Kat stops when she sees Ellie's face in the camera}

{Pause}
MK: Okay. Later.

#everyminutecounts #neverenoughtime

Later ...

  2. What a gal. Cat logic with toys and mice takes some sideways thinking, but humans do really walk into things, and not just doors and cupboards like Mrs H. Sending good vibes and Buddhist mantras for Ellie's operation.

  9. Kitties Blue: Ellie Mae definitely has you wrapped around her paw. But, we think that’s as it should be. Mom will be praying for her and we all send POTP for when she has her surgery. We suspect the special treatment will continue even after that is in the past. Thanks, Kat, for the kind words on the blog. I miss seeing you as well. Chloe said you were the first to buy your ticket for Denver. I really wanted to go, but the drive is just too long. I thought about the train, but even that takes 48 hours. We are avoiding airports and planes. Thanks for sending out the COEs so quickly. Definitely some stiff competition for the Muses. Keep us posted about Ellie Mae and take good care of yourself.
