Today, we remember orphan pets waiting for forever homes.

Hi! My name is Latte. You probably all know me by now, but do I have a story to tell you! This is the story of where I came from, as in, how I came to find my forever home. You all know my Momma likes to tell everyone I look like the love-kitten of Bear Cat and one of his beloved torties, but my beginning isn't nearly so full of love.
A man drove along a country road at night and saw a box. Something about this box seemed weird and out of place, and he pulled over. Inside this box were my sister Cocoa and me! We were tiny kittens, not yet big enough to crawl out of the box ourselves. I can't say I was scared because I was way too small to understand enough to be afraid. I remember being hungry and cold, though.
Anyway, the nice man brought Cocoa and me home with him. He spent a long time painstakingly giving us flea baths and combing the fleas from our coats. He couldn't keep us, so he called every rescue and shelter in the area, and no one had room for Cocoa and me. But he didn't give up and called rescues and shelters in neighboring counties until he found my foster mom's rescue.
My sister Cocoa was adopted a week before me. I was sad without her, but I befriended a ginger kitten named Casper. Waiting for my Mom and Daddy to find me was certainly worth it!
My Mom wishes she could thank the man. He thinks he just saved two kittens on the side of the road, but he saved my Mom and my Daddy a little too.
Can you believe that the nice man had to call tens of places just to find someone to care for Cocoa and me? Imagine all those cats and dogs in those rescues and shelters waiting for their chance to know the love of a forever home. Because of my experience and how lucky I was that someone didn't give up on me, I will always remember the orphan pets who aren't so lucky. All pets matter. I won't give up on them, and the hope they will know the love of a forever home like mine. The power of the human-animal bond changes lives.
Also, I will always remember the people on the front lines ensuring no cat or dog is left behind. Thank you, Linda, for loving me until my Mom and Daddy found me.
Ellie feels the same way about pets waiting for forever homes. Linda was her foster mom too.

DeleteI'm so glad you were one of the lucky ones sweetest Latte. It's hard to find shelters to take kitties when there are so many there already. It's heartbreaking.

ReplyDeleteTorties are pure gold, right? ~Latte
DeleteCats like many other companions, are sentient beings and all deserve the respect and love and safety that humans expect. More adoption, more often is certainly the way to go. And thank goodness so many people do.

We wholeheartedly agree!
