The cats vs. the feather

We recently received five different OurPets toys. Over the next couple months, we're going to review them on the blog. You may find our review of the Bird in a Cage toy here: Bear finally gets his tasty whole chicken. OurPets says it best: "The OurPets product line features a variety of premium, innovative, quality toys, accessories, feeding and waste management solutions specially designed to awaken a pet’s natural instincts." The products are specifically designed to promote strong bonds between pets and their people. We found out about OurPets on another blog reviewing their products. I was excited to try something different - toys my cats can play with on their own. Time and time again, Bear misbehaves when he's bored. As much as I'd love to always put him first, that's just not reality. To read more about boredom in cats, and Bear's struggles especially, please see: Are your cats bored? I wish we'd had these toys when Bear was younger and more active - there were times his bored antics - as I tried to accomplish the smallest task - left me in tears. And now, I don't get to play with Ellie nearly as much as I'd like to. These toys provide an outlet for cats' natural instinctual behavior. To read more about these instincts: Feline instincts.

Today, we're reviewing the Disappearing Feather toy. While it wasn't the favorite OurPets toy of either of that cats - both cats were fascinated by it and attempted to catch the feather. The OurPets Disappearing Feather Cat Toy keeps your cat guessing with an unpredictable appearing and disappearing feather. Your cat's instincts are enhanced by OurPets RealMouse® sound to offer your cat a more natural hunting experience.

I'm going to let the pictures tell the story - you can see how much fun they're having! As you'll see, the cats approached the toy together and it kept both of their interests. I love that they found a way to play together that didn't cross one of their boundaries - resulting in a fight. These pictures were taken over a series of four or five nights - so the positioning is slightly different - but the fun is the same. We'll review the other toys soon.

  1. Looks like a fun toy, but I am afraid that we might get bored with it. But great review you two. Have a great day.

    1. Mine got bored after a few minutes too. I don't think it helps that they can't really catch the feather.

  16. We wonder, if we've never heard a real mouse sound, how would the real mouse sound work, exactly? Maybe this is an instinct thing? Like when Dad wiggles his toes under the blankets, we just KNOW we have to pounce on them? Our Mom loves the name "Mouse in a Pouch." That might be some big marketing shoes to fill with a great name like that!

    1. I can't say for sure ... but I think instincts have a lot to do with it.
