Pet Blogger Showcase 04/01/2017

Twice a month, Bear and I co-host a Pet Blogger Linky Party along with co-hosts PetFavesHeart Like A Dog, and Felines Opines. If you missed the last Pet Blogger Showcase, you can view it here: Pet Blogger Showcase 03/18/2017; past weeks as a co-host ... Pet Blogger Showcase 10/01/2016Pet Blogger Showcase 10/15/2016Pet Blogger Showcase 11/05/2016Pet Blogger Showcase 11/19/2016Pet Blogger Showcase 12/03/2016Pet Blogger Showcase 01/07/2017Pet Blogger Showcase 01/21/2017Pet Blogger Showcase 02/04/2017Pet Blogger Showcase 02/18/2017Pet Blogger Showcase 03/04/2017.

Why do Bear and I like blog hops and linky parties?
  • We've met so many incredible new friends we'd never find otherwise. For the majority of blogs Bear and I visit on a regular basis, probably eighty percent of them or more we found through participating in blog hops.
  • With the variety of blogs that participate, there's so much to learn for those of us who can never know enough. Not to mention that there are a lot of touching, fascinating, or otherwise unique stories to be told outside of one's "niche."
  • They are great ways to build relationships within the blogging community. When Momma recently went through a tough time emotionally, our blogging friends were our best supports. So building relationships with other bloggers isn't just about increasing readership, but also connecting in meaningful ways that can often be lost behind a computer screen.
If you join our Party, please link to a specific post from your blog instead of to your blog's homepage. Since each co-host chooses three posts from the last Party to feature each week - you increase your chances of being chosen by giving us a specific post and not the more general homepage.

In keeping with the tradition of this particular linky party, my three favorite link ups from the last Showcase follow. A note on the last Showcase ... Bear and I were ecstatic at how many link ups we had last time!!! Especially with the great showing of felines! THANK YOU to everyone/everycat/everydog who linked up ... the Showcase is made better by each and every friend who joins.

*** LOST: On the Salmon River Trail - My Life With Dogs PDX ***
One of the worst nightmares of a person who shares her life with a furbaby? Her furbaby getting sick or lost. It can be a tough call on how to protect our babies from getting lost. Is a fence enough? What about a leash in a dog park where leashes aren't required? A trail? My yard is enclosed by a huge retaining wall and to avoid chasing Bear Cat in circles (his favorite game), I’ve started to let him come inside on his own time (with me checking on him every couple minutes). He’s never taken the stairs out of the yard … but I imagine that’s how it happens. It only takes a few seconds … a strange situation (chasing something or being chased) … and he’d be gone. This post details the scare Christy experienced recently on one her hikes with Shermie.

With my first cat, I realized I was giving her treats (and even some people food) as a way of showing love. It seems logical … you love your baby and want them to be happy … so you give them special treats. You justify it as just a few treats and you forget about it until your vet comments that your furbaby needs to lose weight. Once I realized what I was doing, I thought long and hard about other ways to show her I love her. She ended up with diabetes and that’s when the magnitude of my error became apparent. Now, with Bear Cat, I try to be aware of what I’m doing. Giving treats out of love is a hard mindset to break … but thankfully, I usually catch myself and either play with Bear Cat or cuddle with him instead. This post is great in explaining the problem of overweight pets and gives a good guide on how to turn things around.

If there's one thing I've learned, it's that changes are as scary as they are exciting. Ratcheting up the fear is the possibility that one might fail because one doesn't know the best way to execute the changes. I'm often paralyzed into inaction, so I truly admire the people who blaze the path and make the changes consistent with their hearts. Quite honestly, the excitement is a bit contagious as one reads about the exciting changes the crew of Wag 'n Woof Pets have in store.

Wait! Wait! One ... no TWO more!!! We're counting this as a chosen ORGANIZATION ... though the blogs themselves are amazing and WELL WORTH your visit. For as long as I cohost, I will praise and raise awareness for PAWS, an incredible rescue in Norwalk, Connecticut that I've come to admire and wholeheartedly support. We LOVE these two blogs because of their upbeat attitude and because they do a phenomenal job of sharing this particular rescue - and the cats available for adoption there. PAWS offers a lot of great programs including a "pension plan" for senior pets up for adoption. We encourage our readers to visit these two blogs, check out the amazing animals up for adoption on PAWS' website, and support rescue efforts at PAWS and locally.

  1. It's terrible scary when your furrbaby gets lost, but TC it ended well. Granny has experienced this with her doggie a few times, she run out of the garden with the kids, but because of her tattoo in her ear (in those days they didn't have microchips) she always was found. We always learn from our mistakes, BearCat and the next time we try to do it better than the first time. Life is a school... in every way. Pawkisses for a wonderful weekend :) <3

    1. That's my Momma's perspective as well! She feels horrible about her mistakes - and blames herself for a lot - but it does make her feel better to know she learned something :) ~Bear Cat

  2. Thank you so much for selecting our post! I appreciate how much you understand the fear factor to all of these big changes. I really do have to push myself sometimes, because it's so much easier to just stick with the status quo. I have to work hard not to let my fear of failing paralyze me!
I need to go back and read the chubby dog post. We try so hard to keep our crew at a healthy weight but it can be challenging at times! It's the time of year for us when everyone starts to look a bit chubby, so it's time to get it under control!
