Sunday Selfie #33

I know I'm handsome. So joining The Cat on My Head's Sunday Selfies blog hop is a no brainer! This week, I'm sharing pictures of me sitting at my favorite spot on the kitchen table. I like to sit there and stare at Momma while she works. Why? Because it makes her nervous ... I don't actually WANT anything ... it's just fun to watch her squirm. After viewing my pictures, you're MORE than welcome to express your appreciation of this fine feline specimen with tasty whole chickens ... my Momma will give you the address (just tell her you're sending me socks!). ~Bear Cat

A note about my Momma's picture taking ... up until she started our blog, she'd given up completely on taking pictures of me. I'm awfully cute, but the lighting in the house sucks and she got frustrated that all the pictures she took that SHOULD be wonderful, were so .... NOT. Needing pictures for our blog, she forced herself to keep trying, even when I'd quit what I was doing because I wasn't used to the camera. Within the last couple months though, I've started mugging for the camera a bit, don't you think? PSST! Momma! I'm ready for my closeup!!!

    1. Thank you. She's contemplated doing just such a post but never got around to it! I'm lucky I'm cute, otherwise I'd get in A LOT of trouble. My Momma says thank you about the pictures ... it truly means a lot to her because she agonized over taking pictures for a long time :) ~Bear Cat

    4. Ooops, I hope I don't get sued for that, this is a family blog and all, and falling off a chair is quite gratuitous! Maybe it's just a UK publication, like the Bi-annual What Mailman Magazine that our Kraken has delivered, well did have delivered until we ran out of mailmen. Mouses!

  7. I think your mamma takes good pictures, Bear! Plus, the lady says she's lucky that you're such a willing model. It's very rare that she can get me to look at the camera or even open my eyes.

    These are all great. I love that very first one. You're such a cutie and so expressive.

    1. I used to shy away from the camera too ... Momma would get out the camera and I'd run. Now I'm in the mood to mug it for the camera sometimes. It took a couple years of her annoying me with the camera first though. Many shoots where she lured me with treats, took 400 pictures (not kidding) and didn't get even one usable shot :) Even now, sometimes I'm JUST NOT IN THE MOOD. ~Bear Cat

    Mom says she has 87 tons of pictures of me and don't tell my human sister but there is by no means anywhere near that many photos of her here.

  10. I'm glad your momma hasn't given up on taking photos of you. You're just too handsome not to share with the world!!! I'm very thankful that my office has excellent lighting. That is what it's all about! And the photo subject, too, of course. Happy Sunday!

  21. Good grief you are handsome, Bear! Could you ask Mudpie to start doing a little more mugging? My house is dark as a crypt but I keep trying...needless to say though, I do not have the most cooperative model!

    1. It's dark here too. Like RIDICULOUSLY dark. If you look at our older pictures (though some I'm replaced with newer edited ones), you'll see just how dreadful things were before. For lighting ... on action shots or in shots where I can't have the camera set on something for stability, I have to use a flash otherwise it's blurry. For the shots like these ... I modify the color temperature (for some reason in the darker shots, the temp tips toward yellow/brown ... I actually use an auto-correct because I suck at the mechanics) and then lighten, lighten, lighten. The main difference between our older pictures and the newer ones are editing. Some pictures you can't edit as light as you need them ... they just look horrid. Bear used to be a complete stinker about pictures. He'd run away or turn his back to me. But after MONTHS of trying to bribe him with treats (only to get 400 pictures ... and no usable shots) and taking endless pictures ... he doesn't react anymore. Of course, he's a cat ... sometimes he's not in the mood PERIOD. But occasionally, he'll mug. I NEVER thought I would see this day! NEVER! Here's another thing I can tell you ... sometimes the photographer just gets lucky. For every picture on here, there are HUNDREDS of other takes and angles. I just take pictures until Bear (or I) get(s) bored. Mudpie is so gorgeous ... I'm just in awe. I'd hope she'd get used to the camera eventually too :)

  22. This might be one of your best photo shoots ever! I struggled with lighting and focus in my early blog days, but even now when I look at those photos, all I see is the love I have for my kids and the love they have for me in return. The rest is just technical. You're doing a great job!

    1. Thank you! That means so much! And you're right ... the main point of taking the pictures is to capture our love. I kind of forgot that point and it's the one that really matters. And I think I've actually taken my best pictures when I've been working from that place of love too.

  23. Bear, you're quite handsome....but you already know that. ;). You should see all the terrible photos the mom has of us. Literally thousands! And close ups are the worse. We hate having that flashy box stuck in our faces.

I mean, not in the middle of naps or in the middle of eating ... or when I'm playing or in the litter box ... hmm ... that doesn't leave a lot of time left, does it? ~Bear Cat

  24. Don't stress about pictures. Look at how you can improve and, when you can, take steps to get better. Look at free apps, and little digital cameras, check out a small smartphone. It doesn't all need to be right now this minute - one paw step at a time, it's enough, you will get here.

  26. Bear, you are a handsome boy no matter the quality of the light! Still, we won't say it too often because we don't want you to get a swelled head! Tell your Mama, that our Mama understands completely about dark lighting! It gets very dark here in Vancouver during the winter months because of all the rain (we have had unusually sunny days this winter but the rain started again yesterday and it looks as though it will be sticking!). Many of our indoor pics taken during the winter months are dark and then when the sun does shine, our Mama wants to take pics outdoors where the pups get to go, so the cats get overlooked!! Mean old Mom ;(

    1. We adore all your pictures. ALL. Then again, the subjects are super easy to fall in love with. The descriptions of each you have in the sidebar can totally be seen in the pictures too! That's what I'd like to be able to do in the future ... talk less and have the pictures tell more of the story ... it's a very rare skill and one LP does very well!
